Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless Water Heaters

Are you considering switching to a tankless water heater? Many people are switching to tankless water heaters, a smaller system that is much more energy efficient. Though the tankless system is more expensive to purchase and install, this type of heater can save you money in the long run. Since this system only heats the water you use right now, they are sometimes called on demand water heaters.

What Type of Tankless Water Heater Is Best for Me?

The best type of water heater for your unique home is dependent on the number of people in your household. A downside, especially for larger families, is that the tankless system can only heat so much water at a time. If you buy a low flow system you might not be able to run the washing machine and bathtub with hot water at the same time. This means that if you do have a larger family, you would either want to buy a heavier flow (more GPM’s) unit, or buy multiple units and pipe them in a parallel installation.

Comparing the Conventional Water Heater to the Tankless Water Heater

There are various advantages and disadvantages to each type of water heater. Tankless water heaters are great because they tend to last about twice as many years as conventional tank type water heaters with proper installation and maintenance. In addition, tankless water heaters generate hot water instantly, where conventional water heaters take a little longer to heat up. However, this type of water heater tends to be a little more expensive.
